For the time, on consoles, this was all new. There's customization, but it's also pretty thin. In fact, you don't really make any lasting decisions at all. You never actually have to make any tough decision. There's a morality system, but it's kind of silly and on the nose. There's a levelling system, but it's quite easy to put points in to everything you want and have a super powered melee-mage with tons of health, mana, and most of the spells maxed out. But it's split into zones and each one is tiny and restrictive. Because as a RPG, compared to modern titles, Fable is quite simplistic. ![]() With that in mind the mechanics start making more sense to me. All the other systems seem superfluous until you consider the common mantra that Fable is a mix of RPG and The Sims-esque life sim. It's extraordinarily easy to beat the game provided you use magic and you have enough potions. You can get married to any NPC, but what benefit does it provide? The game has all these life-sim mechanics that you *can* engage with, but you don't need to. Something Yahtzee said about it resonated with me 'you can, but why would you?'. After waiting a couple of seconds, it recognized all the files and let me load my old character.Fable is unremarkable to me as an RPG. It's the only thing that seems unique to that set of panels, though.Įdit: OK, so the save file I was able to fix by creating a new a hero in the same slot as the first, instead of starting a new game and letting it save. ![]() So does anyone have any idea how I might fix either of these issues? I'm thinking the level-up crash has something to do with the framed-in videos that play, but that's just a guess. It just immediately loses access to any save files created (including auto and quick), and it won't even restore properly from a backup. The game can't even create a new character profile properly. bck file after rebooting, but it didn't help. I think there's maybe profile (no extension) file that went missing from the folder, and it screwed up the file entries on disc such that I can't restore the overall character profile. The last time it crashed, the game seems to have royally screwed up its save file system. I've gotten in the habit of saving right before I use it. Sometimes it goes when I interact with it, and sometimes it waits until I change skill types in the menu, but it dies probably 75% of the time unless I just started the game. ![]() Almost every time I use the level up system in the Guild, the game crashes. I've looked all over and haven't seen anything that's quite this issue. We always want to make the sub better, so feel free to ask for flairs, CSS changes, more/less rules - whatever.
